The Sweet Sixteen is renowned for its longevity and high build quality, and is suitable for both quilting and free-motion embroidery. The owner of this machine has had it from new in 2015, but a change in circumstances means it is now seeking a new home.
This machine is supplied with a heavy duty table, a smooth table overlay to make it easy to move the fabric and a separate bobbin winder. In addition it is supplied with:
- Around 30 pre-wound bobbins
- Fabric paddles to make it easier to grip and move the fabric
- A selection of longarm rulers
- A selection of stencils
The machine has a low stitch count and is stitching well, but it would benefit from a service (£250 at Pinhole Quilting) to check and lubricate all moving components. When the new owner attends the FREE** full-day Foundation training course included with this machine you could even bring the machine for service then (by appointment). Alternatively, as the owner still has the original machine box, it could be sent and returned by courier to be serviced.
This machine is available to try out with the owner, and is easily transported in a medium or large sized car as the table folds down flat.

Sweet 16
The most popular Sit-Down Longarm in the UK.
The Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen was a classic in the Handi Quilter range. It fits into even the smallest of rooms. Stitch regulation can be achieved through the TruStitch add-on. This helps the user maintain a regular stitch automatically when moving the quilt.
If you are a Textile Artist or a Free Motion Embroiderer you may prefer to work in manual mode. In that case the manual mode may be your preference. The foot lifts up to allow you to hoop your work. Alternative feet such as the Micro Foot allow you to work with excellent visibility of the needle. All of the Handi Quilter machines are excellent for being able to adjust and work with different threads. This is one of the aspects that we teach on the many courses and workshops that we offer. You can even use three threads through a single needle (with the addition of the optional Horizontal Spool Pin) and blend threads. It's exciting and fun to do!
Hand-winding unusual threads on the bobbin is also a possibility although it's not something we recommend for a beginner. So, if you are into experimental thread play and design then Handi Quilter is definitely the place to come to.
You can find some of our customers such as Jacqui Parkinson quilts huge textile panels on her Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen which she has had since 2012. Jacqui said "People need to know that you can do really large pieces on these sit-down machines".
And at the Houston Quilt Show in 2023 the key display quilt was Helen Godden's "My Australia" - a single piece 20 feet wide and 4 feet high, also quilted on her Sweet 16.
The machine has a 16" throat space and a footprint of just 3 feet x 3 feet for the table and machine (1 square metre). It can fit into even the most compact of sewing rooms.
Optional fold-down tables can be fitted to either or both sides of the table. They give an additional 18" of space at each side.
